A Bill of Sale is For Your Protection

A bill of sale is inexpensive and worth the $3.99 it cost to get one from your state. (You can get a free document below, if you wish.)

This is a legal document and it will protect you from someone who buys your car and then tries to stick you with a bad check. There are some people that will give you a bad certified check.

This is why I recommend doing business at your local bank. This way you can have your bank call and make sure the certified check is legit.

Selling Tip - For Your Protection

If the buyer doesn't want to do business at your local bank, chances are their check isn't any good.

Having A Legal Document Will Protect You After The Sale

If someone buys your car and wrecks it soon after the sale, you will have a legal document to prove when you sold your car and who bought it.

I recommend writing down the persons phone number and cell phone number on the bill of sale.

Be sure to write down the phone number that is listed on your caller ID. You should be able to contact the buyer from this number.

This may not be their home phone number, but it should be a contact number.

If something should happen, all you have to do is show the police your legal document.

You are in the clear.

Free Sales Document (Adobe Acrobat PDF)

I like free stuff, but to me it is worth the $3.99 for a document from my own state.

Anyway, I'll let you decide that.

I just want you to have a choice of either one.

Also, I will do my best to provide you with the lowest prices on the net.

How to verify if the free document is acceptable

I am not in any way, saying that the free document is not legitimate. From my experience with the banks in the USA, a signed document by two parties is binding and proof of an agreement. With that said, I can not say for certain that all states or countries, will accept any signed agreement, that is not produced by their own legislature. Just call your local bank and they will tell you what is acceptable.
